October is breast cancer awareness month. You surely know this.
I am circulating this post on the JVT Community website as a shout out to all the cancer survivors living in our neighborhood. There are a few, including me.
If you haven’t thought about Pink October, here are a few things you can do:
If you’re a lady, keep up with your self-exam and if you spot any lump – see a doctor, don’t wait! Many hospitals and clinics are offering free mammogram this month. It’s the time to start if you are over 45.
Ladies and gents, find one event this October to join. Things will be happening all around Dubai to celebrate survivors and raise awareness on the importance of early prevention. Participate – it shows you care!
One suggestion: Join the Dubai Creek Striders for the 5k or 10k Pink Run on Friday 20th October at 6am from the World Trade Center. Click for details and sign up.
Contribute to the cause
Why not also give a little? Any contribution – big or small – to Brest Friends will help more women get the care they need in the UAE. The local support group is working to help diagnosed women get through this terrible ordeal with dignity, understanding and the strength to fight. Set up in 2005 by Dr Houriya Kazim, the UAE’s first female surgeon, with the mission to save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer, Brest Friends is under the auspices of the Al Jalila Foundation and can legally accept public donations 🙂 Click here to give now!
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Give your own shout out this month to all the courageous women and men you know who have or are fighting cancer. Take a moment to call or write them. They’ll appreciate your support!
