Nakheel reminds residents about rules on dogs

19 November 2017

Dear owners and residents,

We continue to receive numerous complaints from residents about the lack of care and control over pets by some members of the community.

There are two concerns in particular:

·    Unleashed dogs, leading to discomfort and unease among residents

·    Dogs owners failing to clean up after their pets

We are therefore issuing a timely reminder of our Community Rules and Regulations to ensure that all residents are clear about what is and is not acceptable. These regulations are designed to promote safe, harmonious living, and Nakheel Community Planning and Management is responsible for ensuring compliance at all times. All pet owners are required to follow these rules, and to educate family members and domestic staff so that they too are familiar with the regulations.

·    All dogs must be kept on a leash and under the handler’s full control at all times within the Master Community when not being within the secured boundary walls of a resident’s plot.

·    Dog owners are fully responsible for removal of their pets’ excrement in a prompt and sanitary manner.

·    Pet owners are fully responsible for damage caused by their pet, including damage to landscaping by digging, defecation or urination.  Pet owners will also be held responsible if their pet causes personal injury to another property, tenant, guest or member of the public.

·    Subject to applicable laws, Nakheel is authorised to request the relevant authority to impound and remove any animal from the Master Community if it is considered a nuisance or threat to the community.

We encourage anybody who witness any behaviour that contravenes these rules to contact our security team (04 3903333) who will take the appropriate action.

Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Nakheel

Get your Gardens Going JVT!

With our ample backyards, JVT is a great community for gardening.

This is the time of year to get your plants in the ground. This season, I tried to nurture some little seeds and lost more than half my crop. After sowing, some sprouted rather quickly and either I overwatered them or I set them outside too early for the process called ‘hardening off’. I assumed that since we are going from cool A/C to hot outdoors, the process wouldn’t take as long as when you are trying to get the young seedlings accustomed to the cold weather. As well, I discovered that the birds feasted on a few soft sprouts before I realized that I should cover them to save them from these attacks!

I had to resort to buying a few already strong tomato and eggplant potted plants which have acclimated well to the garden over the last two weeks. In a few weeks more, I should be able to transfer the cucumbers, red peppers and green bean plants I started from seed.

Our bokashi composting bin has been giving us a nice rich soil. I do fear, however, that we don’t have enough pollinators to visit our garden due to the regular pesticide spraying around the village. Maybe we can get Nakheel to reduce the poison routine!

Here’s wishing all the gardening villagers a successful and delicious harvest in a few months time.

Term Two offers even More to Do !

Can you believe that first term at school is over? I can’t ! It seems like we just settled back from the summer.

But, the great news is that more and more is happening right here in JVT. There are new classes on offer and I encourage you all to have a look at the community website page with all the after-school and weekend activities for kids and adults alike. Click here!

The latest addition to after school activities round up is drama classes on Mondays with Ds2dio at Arcadia Preparatory school. Makes me wish I was young again!

The 30×30 challenge is now half completed. I hope alot of villagers are getting in shape. There is an evening walking group that recently got going with the cooler weather. Why not join in! They are happy to welcome the four-legged friends as well. I understand that the Dubai Mums group also does nightly walks. So, there are plenty of ways to be active around the neighborhood.

Are your youngsters in need of an outlet for all their energy?  Why not try the new weekend soccer classes on offer by AC Milan Academy. Not only will your kids learn the skill of the game, they also gain many great life skills as the Milan Club promotes. Other football classes are on offer as well for any day of the week! See the schedule on our Activities Listing for the program of FCBEscola Dubai as well.

Are martial arts your thing?  Judo and Taekwondo classes are offered by Budo Juku at Sunmarke. Shotokan Karate is also on offer right here in JVT with expert Sensei and former UK champion, Alex Gardner. Hoops Basketball has also started new kids classes. Dribbling the ball couldn’t be more fun with the Hoops team!

If you dance to a different drummer, try out The Shiamak Dance Workshop on Tuesdays – Thursday for children, juniors and adults. Their classes are a great means of self expression and a fun way to expend a lot of energy.

Swim classes are on offer by two different clubs at the Sunmarke school. High Performance Swimming is also offering free adult swim for two more weeks during the 30×30 challenge. Don’t miss the opportunity to get some advice on your strokes. Or see what’s on offer with Warriors Swim Club.

You can also avail of chess club and language classes in French, Spanish and Russian from qualifed teachers are all available right here in JVT with Headway Institute.

Decoupage Dreams! Meet Nancy Neel.

Meet Nancy Neel – a budding artist living here in JVT.

She and a friend discovered a shared passion for arts and crafts and recently embarked on a home-based creative venture. They have an instagram page for their home business to share their creativity and artistic taste.

Prodded by her son, Nancy also started a YouTube channel to document the items she creates. Watch some of her videos to see exactly how she creates her pieces! You can see the application of decoupage on a ceramic plate or glass vase. Be inspired by how she has recycled an old lantern or decorated a candle with decoupage to make your own creations.

Nancy says she is motivated by her friends and family. “They encourage me on this path to create my own style which is influenced by my passion of art and crafts,” Nancy tells me. “I fell in love with applying decoupage on all types of surfaces, especially on ceramics.”

She explained to me that, at some point, she decided “to stop being only a consumer and start to be a productive person” as well. Our world would indeed be a better place with a little less consumerism and a lot more re-use or upcyling of products and materials to give them a second life.

If you’re interested in her work, get in touch by email (nneel@qti.qualcomm.com) or give her a ring on 050-1008836 !
